Artist/Curator Talk: Park McArthur und Christopher Weickenmeier

  • Diese Veranstaltung hat bereits stattgefunden.

In the process of planning a forthcoming exhibition at the Kunstraum Leuphana University Lüneburg (Fall of 2023), artist Park McArthur and curator Christopher Weickenmeier visit Mirjam Thomann’s class to share examples of past projects and to engage questions about aesthetics, making and presenting art, logistics, and the fact that hands are often fists holding nothing more or less than shared desire. Connected by shared concerns for mediation and discursive possibilities, alternative structures of support in life and art, as well as the non-simultaneity of experience, Park and Christopher will discuss recent past projects, including Christopher’s show with the artist, writer and mutual friend Johanna Hedva. Seeking to follow the class’s interests and curiosities, Christopher and Park may also offer some questions of their own such as: how can art invite us to think about the nature of experience, encounter, resistance in and outside of institutional life? How does art undermine the (structurally and affectively) reinforced connection between immediacy, experience and inviolacy/sovereignty? What is the white cube if not a support structure for the all-access Malerschwein?

Park McArthur is an artist who experiments with personal and social meanings of debility, delay and dependency under the guidance and instruction of disability. McArthur currently teaches at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Christopher Weickenmeier is a curator and researcher. Currently at the Kunstraum Leuphana University Lüneburg, he is interested in possible refusals of hegemonic publics.

Der Vortrag ist Teil der Vortragsreihe Künstlerische Praxis und wird hybrid im STUDIO 0.319 und über Zoom stattfinden.
