Screening by Vanessa Gravenor: Injury as Prism: On Wounds and (un)wounding

Screening video/filmic works and artist talk by artist/writer Vanessa Gravenor — Me/My Bullet (2016), This Weapon Drags Like a Boomerang (2018/19) and Paper Swallows Rock (2021) —the event will examine wounds (bodily/psychic) as spaces to examine personal and political histories of violence. Using devices such as auto-fiction, the video essay, and artistic research, the works explore the artist’s injury in the 2015 Paris terrorist attack, which forms a bridge onto other histories of military damage and proxy wars. Image operations get coded and decoded, yet the mind and the injured psyche can be seen as vehicle for disarmament.
BIO:
Vanessa Gravenor is an artist and writer working in Berlin and Hamburg, DE. She works on the topics of entangled traumas, the aftermaths and aftereffects of war/military operations. In her works and texts, she keeps an eye towards vulnerability, the psyche, and processes of recovery (present and past). Vanessa currently works as an Artistic Research Assistant at HFBK-Hamburg where she is completing a theory-practice dissertation project.
