COUNTING FEELINGS w/ MELT – MEDIENKUNSTFELLOWS / Media-Art-FELLOWS

In diesem Wintersemester 2022/23 laden MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Iz Paehr) zur Mitarbeit im Rahmen ihres Projekts Counting Feelings ein. 
Als Medienkunstfellows sind MELT Gäste des Fachbereichs Kunst & Kunsttheorie, geben Einblicke in ihre Praxis, und suchen den Austausch zu trans*feministischen und Disability Justice Datenpraktiken mit Studierenden, Kolleg*innen, Künstler- und Designer*innen und Forscher*innen. MELT wird ein Datencenter als Satellit der Bibliothek des Fachbereichs Kunst gründen und die Frage untersuchen, wie und mit welchen Absichten die Erfahrungen marginalisierter Gruppen als Daten quantifiziert und gezählt werden, und wie wir mit Daten anders –oder anderes– erzählen können. Counting Feelings ist ein spekulatives Projekt, das ausgehend von dem strukturellen Wissen und der persönlichen Erfahrung noch-nicht-existierender Datensammlungen konzipiert und erprobt. 
In drei Workshops werden Mittel und Werkzeuge der Datenerhebung erforscht, um technische und soziale Strukturen weiterzuent/wickeln, so dass sie sich auf liebevolle Weise mit dem Wissen von Trans* und behinderten Menschen auseinandersetzen. 
Für Studierende bieten MELT darüber hinaus auch ein Blockseminar (Counting Feelings: Coalitional Politics and Artistic Research) an.

MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Iz Paehr) untersuchen und experimentieren mit formwandelnden Prozessen, die in einer sich erwärmenden Welt auf Technologien, sensorische Medien und Pädagogik treffen. Ihr Projekt Meltionary (abgeleitet von „dictionary“) ist eine wachsende Sammlung von künstlerisch-forschenden Auseinandersetzungen die neben materiellen und algorithmischen Fragestellungen auch Impulse aus Trans* Feminismus und Disability Studies aufgreift. Schmelzen/Melting als kaleidoskopartige Phänomene berührt mehrere Themen gleichzeitig: Klimawandel, das Potenzial für politische Neuformulierungen, Wandel im Laufe der Zeit und materielle Transformation. MELT teilt Arbeiten in Form von Videos, Installationen, Websites, Vorträgen, Workshops und Kursen.

 

Das Projekt findet in Zusammenarbeit mit Jun.-Prof. Dr. Konstanze Schütze statt und wird freundlicherweise gefördert durch das Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen im Programm Medienkunstfellows.

This winter semester 2022/23, MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Iz Paehr) invite all interested to join in on their arts-design project Counting Feelings. As media art fellows, MELT are guests of the Department of Art & Art Theory. MELT is sharing insights into their practice, as well as seeking exchange on trans*feminist and Disability Justice data practices with students and colleagues, and fellow artists, designers and researchers.
MELT will establish a data center as a satellite of the Department of Art’s library, exploring the question of how and with what intentions the experiences of marginalized groups are quantified and counted as data, and how we can use data to recount different -or other- stories. Three workshops will explore means and tools of data collection to further develop/subvert technical and social structures so that they lovingly engage with the knowledges of Trans* and disabled people.
Counting Feelings is a speculative project, conceived and tested from the structural knowledge and personal experiences of not-yet-existing data collections. For students, MELT offers a block seminar (Counting Feelings: Coalitional Politics and Artistic Research).

MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Iz Paehr) explore and experiment with shape-shifting processes that meet technologies, sensory media, and pedagogy in a warming world. Their project, Meltionary (derived from „dictionary“), is a growing collection of artistic/research engagements that draws on material and algorithmic issues as well as impulses from trans* feminism and disability justice. Melting as kaleidoscopic phenomena touches on multiple themes simultaneously: climate change, the potential for political reformulation, change over time, and material transformation. MELT shares work in the form of videos, installations, websites, lectures, workshops, and courses.

 

The project takes place in cooperation with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Konstanze Schütze and is kindly funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in the Media Art Fellows program.
