NRW Medienkunstfellows im WiSe2022: MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Isabel Paehr) & Konstanze Schütze

This winter semester 2022/23, MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Isabel Paehr) and Konstanze Schütze (Juniorprofessorin Kunst Medien Bildung, Universität zu Köln) invite you to three workshops within their project Counting Feelings kindly funded through the Medienwerk.nrw Medienkunstfellowship. With Counting Feelings, we research how and with what intentions the experiences of marginalized groups are quantified and counted as data, and how we can use data to tell or re-count these stories differently. We explore means and tools of data collection to develop structures that lovingly engage with trans* and disabled people’s knowledge. Counting Feelings is a speculative project that takes trans* and disabled knowledge as a starting point to feel into and test not-yet-existent data collections.

MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Isabel Paehr) study and experiment with shape-shifting processes as they meet technologies, sensory media and pedagogies in a warming world. Meltionary (derived from „dictionary“), is a growing collection of arts-design-research engagements that cooks up questions around material transformations alongside impulses from trans* feminism and disability justice. Melting as a kaleidoscope like phenomena touches upon multiple topics at once: climate change, the potential for political reformulations, change over time and material transformation. MELT shares work in the forms of videos, installations, websites, lectures, workshops and courses.

In diesem Wintersemester 2022/23 laden MELT (Ren Loren Britton & Isabel Paehr) und Konstanze Schütze (Juniorprofessorin Kunst Medien Bildung, Universität zu Köln) zu drei Workshops im Rahmen ihres Projekts Counting Feelings ein, das freundlicherweise durch das Medienwerk.nrw Medienkunstfellowship gefördert wird. Im Projekt Counting Feelings untersuchen wir die Frage wie und mit welchen Absichten die Erfahrungen marginalisierter Gruppen als Daten quantifiziert und gezählt werden und wie wir mit Daten anders er-zählen können. Wir erforschen Mittel und Werkzeuge der Datenerhebung, um Strukturen zu entwickeln, die sich liebevoll mit dem Wissen von trans* und behinderten Menschen auseinandersetzen. Counting Feelings ist ein spekulatives Projekt, das ausgehend von diesem Wissen noch-nicht-existierende Datensammlungen konzipiert und erprobt.
