Our access to digital culture is now almost entirely ordered by algorithmic recommendation systems. We can infer that in this age of algorithmic culture, memes have become “algorithmic runo”: images, sounds, texts, ideas that connect multiple reference points which seep out of algorithmic scrolls. Often meme creators make and circulate memes with the Algorithm and online visibility in mind. How does this algorithmic ordering of culture change the way that meme creators create memes? What does the Algomeme look like?
