Lecture by Michaela Kramer, Angela Tillmann, Alyssa Feick and Johanna Fink: Expanding Narratives. Youth and their Images of Sustainability

In the media padagogical project ‘Expanding Narratives’, young people from Germany and Tanzania spent two years critically, creatively and analytically examining narratives and images on the topic of sustainability. Based on participatory and transdisciplinary research and education concepts, the project explored how young people perceive and negotiate historical and contemporary images and narratives in the media. The transcultural exchange resulted in over 80 photographs taken by the young people, which have already been exhibited in both countries. The lecture will present the key findings of this enlightening process.
Michaela Kramer is a junior professor of educational science with a focus on digital media in education at the University of Cologne. Her work focuses on media biography, youth, excessive digital practices, and political and cultural media education.
Angela Tillmann is professor of Cultural and Media Education at the Institute for Media Research and Media Education (IMM) at the University of Applied Sciences (TH Köln). Her work focuses on media socialisation, action-oriented media education, media and gender, and digitalisation in social work.
Alyssa Feick is a research assistant in the project ‘Expanding Narratives. Youth and their Images of Sustainability’ at the University of Cologne. She previously completed a master’s degree in Intercultural Communication and Education and Intermedia at the University of Cologne. Her research focuses on the further development of ideas for discrimination-sensitive, emancipatory, participatory pedagogy and research processes, as well as on exploring possibilities for shaping socially and ecologically sustainable relationships.
Johanna Fink is a research assistant in the project ‘Expanding Narratives. Youth and their Images of Sustainability’ at the University of Applied Sciences (TH Köln). She previously completed her bachelor’s degree in social work at the TH Köln and is currently continuing her academic career with a master’s degree in education and management. In her research to date, she has taken a comparative perspective on participatory research projects and the potential of games for young people with disabilities.

Die Veranstaltung findet in der Humanwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität zu Köln, Gebäude 216, in der Gronewaldstr. 2 statt. Die Eingänge liegen zur Herbert-Lewin-Str. Das gesamte Gebäude ist ebenerdig gelegen und weitere Etagen sind mit Aufzügen erreichbar. Die Eingänge sind für die meisten Rollstühle, Kinderwagen und Gehhilfen breit genug. Die Türen können elektronisch geöffnet werden.
Die Veranstaltungsräume THEATER, MBR und LAB befinden sich im 2. Obergeschoss des BT2 (Bauteil 2), das am besten über den nördlichen Eingang an der Ostseite in Richtung des Kanals zu erreichen ist. Ein Aufzug ist vorhanden, allerdings müssen Zwischentüren durchquert werden, welche nur teilweise elektrisch zu öffnen sind, sodass zusätzliche Unterstützung notwendig sein kann.
In diesem Gebäudeteil gibt es keine Toiletten. Die nächsten Toiletten befinden sich im BT1 (Hauptgebäude), das mit dem Fahrstuhl und teilweise elektrischen Türen erreichbar ist. Im BT1 befinden sich binär getrennte Toiletten, welche rollstuhlgerecht erreicht werden können. Das behindertengerechte WC befindet sich im Erdgeschoss. Das WC ist ausgestattet mit einer Toilette und einer Dusche. Zugänglich ist das WC mit dem Euro-Behinderten-WC-Schlüssel, der auch beim Hausmeister dieses Gebäudes zu entleihen ist. Die nächsten Toiletten für alle Geschlechter befinden sich im Untergeschoss im BT2 und ist ebenfalls mit Fahrstuhl zu erreichen. Der Zugang zu diesen Toiletten ist während der regulären Öffnungszeiten gewährleistet.
