“Monumente sind dazu bestimmt zu bleiben. Doch wenn sie sich bewegen, ist daran etwas sehr Seltsames oder Ungewöhnliches.“ – DN. Deimantas Narkevičius studierte zunächst Skulptur in Vilnius als Litauen in Folge der freien Wahlen vom 11. März 1990 unabhängig wurde. Nur kurze Zeit später verschwanden fast alle Monumente der Sowjetära aus der Stadt.  Diese Monumente, entweder demontiert oder sukzessiv bis zum heutigen Tage im Verschwinden begriffen, tauchen in seinen Filmen wieder auf – medialisiert und in Szene gesetzt. In dem Künstlergespräch mit zahlreiche Beispielen aus seinen Filmen untersucht Narkevičius das Zusammenspiel von Medialisierung und Monument, das die Veränderungen unserer materiellen Kultur und die Techniken des kulturellen Gedächtnisses nebeneinander stellt. (Deimantas Narkevičius wurde 1964 in Utena, Litauen geboren und lebt in Vilnius. Er hat weltweit in bedeutenden Institutionen und Veranstaltungen für zeitgenössische Kunst  in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen ausgestellt; u.a.: Manifesta II in Luxemburg 1998, Skulpturen Projekte Münster 2007; er repräsentierte Litauen bei der 49. Venedig Biennale 2001.)

„Monuments are supposed to stay, but if they move, there is something strange or unusual about it.“ – DM. Deimantas Narkevicius has first studied sculpture in Vilnius when the independence declaration of Lithuania was passed in the wake of free elections on March 11, 1990. A little later, almost all the monuments of the Soviet era were removed from the city. These monuments, whether being dismantled or successively going to disappear to this day, now reappear in his films, mediated and re-enacted. In the artist talk with numerous excerpts from previous films, Narkevicius will investigate this interrelation between medialization and the monument, which juxtaposes the mutations of our material culture and the technologies of cultural memory. (Deimantas Narkevicius was born 1964 in Utena, Lithuania, and lives in Vilnius. Has had group and solo shows around the world at many significant contemporary art venues and events, such as Manifesta II in Luxemburg in 1998, Skulptur Projekte Münster 2007, and he represented Lithuania at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001)
